India 10 Bangalore: The Children

Before travelling to India I had been in touch with Danny and Sumi about the possibility of visiting some children's homes to get some hands on experience of some projects in progress.

Turns out that the organization Sumi works with had a number of projects involving children. My first trip was to a slum area where they run a daycare with children whose parents were out at work all day. They also work with children who had dropped out of school because of physical abuse in the home or alcoholic parents, and its aim with these kids is to get them back in school. Its hard work but there are already many children either back in school or close to being there.

The team of workers taught and sang and fed the children for the whole day until the parents were back for them in the evening. They were some of the most adorable children and so innocent. They had no idea, of their poverty and not a clue about what they faced in the future.

I spent two days here with Sumi and the kids and it was a very rewarding experience. I had not been around that many children in years and it felt good. Here are some of the pics I took.
