Monday blues
and to add to it, look what I just found out...see picture.
Yes, its another day again and what a day it has been and its not even 1pm yet. I went to bed after 1am, got up early, rushed to school to meet my study group for some last minute review before a Bio exam and guess what? My professor did not show up!
Ok...not to bad. We got some extra time for review. An hour later I make my way to my English class where we are studying Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights. 1pm comes and goes and no professor so all my classes are cancelled for the day. This is usually an ideal situation for the typical student but as you all know, I am not a typical student.
I would have preferred to sleep in, have a relaxing morning and then come to school for the activities I have today. So much for that.
Hope your day worked out better than mine.

Vanaja: The Movie You Must See
Last Saturday morning met us sitting at home with David who was visiting, chatting and planning what we should do for the day. I had a seminar to attend but we all expressed our desire to see a movie.
I explained to David what sort of Indian movies I like. That being, movies that portray true aspects of Indian culture, those that show classical dances that are distinctive of the Indian people and even the dress representative of India. All is this is part of the reason I don't go out of my way to see the Bollywood blockbusters.
David told us about this movie, Vanaja and we made our way there at 5pm. We thoroughly enjoyed the movie from the word go. The characters were real, the acting was of the highest standard and it made you feel as if you know these people and can understand exactly what they were experiencing. We laughed, some of us cried, we all got angry at times and we were left hoping that things would work out for Vanaja.
Imagine our surprise to learn that the movie was done as part of a thesis by a student at Columbia University! I would have believed it was written and directed by the best in the business, it was that good. Even better, there was a Q and A with the student and the actress who played the title role Vanaja! That made the experience all the better. David was happily surprised when he realised the movie was in Telegu, his native language.
In saying all this, you Must see this movie!
When September Ends...
September was an interesting month with q a few interesting things happening. Apart from all those that I have already blogged about, September brought my sister Molly to New York for another business trip and another visit with the little brother.
It was too bad that I had school most days but we did manage to go shopping quite a bit and not just for Molly but she picked up a number of things for the apartment, mainly kitchen items I never got around to buying, which was always needed.
He one week stay included many evenings out to dinner and one of her favourite was a trip to Ellen's Stardust Diner, a 50's style diner in the heart of the theatre district in New York's Times Square.(http://lovetoeatandtravel.com/Site/US/NY/Food/ellens.htm)
The waiters and waitresses all sing and the entertainment goes on throughout the night. They are all aspiring actors and actresses and they sure can sing. We all had a great time and left with he resolve to take all our NY visitors to Ellen's.
